Damped Harmonic Motion

So far, we have considered only ideal cases: boxes sliding across frictionless floors, metersticks swinging through a vacuum. In real life, there is usually a little friction or resistance of some kind to the motion of an oscillator. That complicates the analysis; however, in one type of situation which is not unreasonable, we can still figure out an analytic solution to the motion.
