Notes from Feb 8, 2007 phone conference (recorded by Michael Richmond) *** marks an ACTION ITEM Deustua: DOE call for proposals for Dark Energy science we will submit one proposal for SNAP U of Indiana submitted section to create prototype calibration light system (for prototype focal plane) and do simulations DOE funding for SNAP for FY 2007 has been decreased by ~50 percent perhaps this will affect NIR sensor development most strongly Deustua: I posted JWST error budget on SNAPCal TWiKi bottom line: they will have a tough time reaching 5 percent goal assumed most systematic uncertainties will be uncorrelated it would be a good idea for us to examine their methods and numbers as we are thinking about calibrating SNAP most relevant instrument is MIRI in imaging mode also perhaps NIRSPEC IFU Richmond: some of the pieces are pretty simple statistical calculations (photon noise, etc.) no description of methods, operations for calibration Richmond: could we look at similar design documents from the deep past of HST? Bohlin not on the line -- he might know *** Deustua will ask Bohlin if he knows of such documents *** Deustua: will ask JWST team for additional documents in some circumstances, we might compare our plans, documents to the JWST plans, documents tell reviewers "We are doing as well as JWST, so there!" some questions about relative vs. absolute flux calibration -- which is really being described in this document? JWST is assuming Vega's flux is known absolutely (do they work out the methods by which JWST observes Vega, or a series of transfer stars?) Mostek: at U of Indiana recently finished calibration of InGaS (?) photodiodes Mostek has been writing utility classes in SNAPSim three classes with methods adding spectral uncertainties to filters or calibration adding linear error to calibration adding custom error to calibration or filters putting filters into simulation in flexible manner Mostek is communicating with Gary Kushner on this work as he goes Richmond: wrote some documentation on running SNAPSim very very basic *** will put document on SNAPCal TWiKi somewhere ... Kent: PSF characterization -- can it be handed off to Weak Lensing group, since they are the most interested parties? they will come up with requirements -- any other stuff? Deustua: yes, probably okay to let them do it the Supernova Working Group -- can they take over some of our tasks? they will come up with requirements *** Deustua will discuss these two items the Weak Lensing leader(s) and Supernova leader(s) *** Deustua will put Kim's "SN requirements" document on TWiKi and send E-mail describing its location we should invite members of these other teams to give regular reports to us, the Calibration Team
