Students at the Calkins Road Middle School will compete in a Science Olympiad next spring. One of their advisors thought it would help them to prepare for astronomy questions if they came to the Observatory, so we invited them for a visit.
Six students and four parents came to look through our 12-inch telescope at the Moon, Saturn, and Jupiter. All went well for the first two objects, but clouds started to cover the sky when we turned to Jupiter. Rats!
We moved inside to warm up and talk about astronomy and space topics. Each student asked a question, and we celebrated with a round of chocolate-chip cookies. Hooray!
