We didn't have much success with the "Swann" filter, which can in some cases produce higher-contrast images of comets. So, I replaced it in the filterwheel of our main CCD camera with a Johnson-Cousins B filter, of this sort:
We recently received this filter from Optical Structures Corp., in a 49.7-mm unmounted format. This is an interference filter, unlike most of our others, which are colored glass.
I opened the ATIK filter wheel, which used to look like this,
and remove the Swann filter from position 4. In its place, I put the new B filter.
The wheel now looks like this:
I also modified the configuration file of our MaximDL program, under both of the accounts we use at the Observatory, so that it reads as follows:
filter name --------------------------- 1 empty 2 R 3 V 4 B 5 I ---------------------------
