Deep Subaru observations of selected areas
- Large blocks of time on the Subaru telescope
were set aside for the repeated measurements
of several "deep fields"
- The main goal was to study extragalactic objects:
high-redshift galaxies,
using colors and narrow-band filters to estimate redshifts,
and supernovae and AGN,
by finding objects which varied in brightness over time
- Each area was observed 10-20 times over a span of 5-6 years
through a variety of filters,
detecting objects down to magnitude
i' ~ 26
- These datasets provide just what we need to look for
proper motions among faint stars in the Milky Way
