Grading

The grade in this class will be based on a set of homework assignments and on work done during class meetings. There will be roughly one homework assignment per week. Some problems will be marked as optional; students may receive full credit (equivalent to a letter grade of "A") without doing any of the optional problems.

There will be no final exam.

Recommended reading material

Neither book is required, in the sense that I will not assign homework problems by referring to "Chapter 3, number 8". All homework assignments will be provided to you on the course website.

If you have any special needs, you must inform me during the first week of classes. Otherwise, I may not be able to make arrangements in time to help you. Please contact me after class or at my office.
