Galaxy classification exercise

Your job is to examine images of 17 galaxies, all taken with the same telescope (SDSS) and shown at the same scale, with the same colormap. For each galaxy, try to figure out where it fits into the Hubble Tuning Fork diagram.

You should record your work in a spreadsheet, then upload a copy of the spreadsheet to myCourses.

  1. Make a copy of the following spreadsheet: download this spreadsheet
  2. Write your name into the cell B1 of the sheet.
  3. As you examine the galaxy images, record your classification for each one into column B. If you have any comments about a particular galaxy, add them in column C.
  4. Save a copy of your spreadsheet as a CSV file on your computer
  5. Upload the CSV file into this assignment under myCourses.
