Textbook

The textbook for this course is An Introduction to Modern Astrophysics by Carroll and Ostlie. I own the first edition, and students will likely be using the second edition. The differences are minor, but please point them out if you see or hear me referring to material in the wrong place.

You can also see a list of on-line course notes and textbooks which may serve as supplementary information at the end of the main course webpage, under "For more information.

Grading

The course grade will be based on attendance, participation in class, homework assignments, and a final exam. The list below is not definitive, but a rough guide to the importance of each component.
25 percent work in class and presentation
   30 percent homework
   15 percent midterm
   30 percent final exam
   -----------
  100 percent

If you have any special needs, you must inform me during the first week of classes. Otherwise, I may not be able to make arrangements in time to help you. Please contact me after class or at my office.
