The Big Project

The final two weeks of this course will be devoted to a project of your choice. You will each pick a topic which involves some sort of physics, focus on one particular aspect, write a computer program to address that aspect, and create a poster to hold your results. The poster will take the place of your final exam, and will count for a large portion of your final grade. All your posters will be displayed in the College of Science.

In order to stave off the almost inevitable procrastination, I require students to follow this schedule. In order to receive the points listed for each item, you must check in person with the instructor.

You are free to finish items ahead of schedule, of course.

Each poster must be based on a sheet of foamboard or posterboard backing, between 3x3 and 4x3 feet in size. A good poster contains a mix of graphics and text. The title and at least some of the text should be legible from a distance of 5 feet.

Here are some resources you might consult for the design of your poster:

You might wander through the first-floor hallway in the old wing of the COS to look at posters created by biology students; there are examples of both good and bad poster practices.
