Electric Generators
- The basic idea behind most modern power plants is to
convert mechanical energy into electricity
by rotating coils of wire in a strong magnetic field.
- A coil of wire rotating with uniform angular speed
leads to a magnetic flux which changes
sinusoidally with time.
That, in turn, leads to an induced voltage which
also varies sinusoidally.
- So simple electric generators produce AC (Alternating Current)
electricity.
