For each of the vectors in the first diagram, give the sign (either "+" or "-") of the x and y components.

Suppose we define two new vectors, using angles measured positive counterclockwise from the positive X-axis.

   K  =  5 cm  at 30 degrees,      L  =  8 cm at 170 degrees

  1. draw the two vectors on the axis below
  2. sketch the graphical sum of the two vectors
  3. find the components of each vector
  4. calculate the components of the vector sum P = K + L
  5. find the magnitude and direction of the vector P
  6. the graphically and component methods ought to agree; do they?
