Question 1: What are the units of acceleration?
Answer: meters per (seconds squared)
Question 2: Joe drops a rock off the Golden Gate Bridge. How fast is the rock moving after 2 seconds?
Answer: v = a * t
v = (9.8 m/s^2) * (2 s)
v = 19.6 m/s
Question 3: A Corvette goes 0 - 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. What is its average acceleration?
Answer: change in velocity
avg accel = --------------------
change in time
Now, 60 mph = 60 * (1609 meters)/(3600 seconds) = 26.8 m/s
(26.8 m/s - 0 m/s)
avg accel = --------------------
4.5 s
= 5.96 m/s^2
