Midterm announcement and OGLE lensing alert

Physics 240 will have its midterm exam one week from today, on Friday, April 7. The exam will cover material from the lectures, readings, and discussions in class. You will have 50 minutes to complete the test, which will have a mix of multiple choice and short answer questions.

In my mailbox this morning, I found this message from the OGLE team:

HIGH MAGNIFICATION MICROLENSING EVENT

Observations collected by OGLE during the last few nights at the Las
Campanas Observatory indicate that OGLE-2000-BUL-12 microlensing event
will be a very high magnification event. On Mar. 31.35, 2000 (UT) the
magnification was A=21 and it was fast rising. The maximum of light is
predicted on Apr. 1.71, 2000 (UT). Unfortunately, OGLE will not be able
to follow this event after Apr. 1.4, 2000 due to Chilean telescope time.

Follow up observations are strongly encouraged !!!
