Physics of a rotating space station
In the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey", we see a space
station in orbit around the Earth:

Can you answer the following questions?

of the station?
- How fast is the outer wall of the station moving
around the center, in meters per second?
- What is the radial acceleration
of a person in a room near the outer wall?
- What is the tangential acceleration
of a person in a room near the outer wall?
When the first station was first assembled in space,
it wasn't spinning at all.
After the construction, engineers fired rockets
attached to the outer walls to give the station
its spin.
The rockets fired for 30 minutes.
