      Answer: a. change the voltage from one circuit to another

    Question 3: Thomas Edison designed power distribution systems for direct current. He vehemently opposed the use of alternating current. So why do all modern power grids use alternating current electricity? 

      Answer: AC can easily be switched from high voltage (necessary to avoid
          large losses during transmission over long distance) to 
	  low voltage (for use in the home or business).  DC isn't
	  as easily transformed.
