This course focuses on electricity and magnetism, but we will spend one week studying some aspects of the interference of light. All aspects can be understood if one remembers that

• if two light waves meet in phase, they interfere constructively (yielding a bright spot)
• if two light waves meet out of phase, they interfere destructively (yielding a dark spot)
