Physics 212 Lecture: "Phase Transitions and Latent Heat,"
Dec 19, 1997
- Material can under a phase transition from one state of matter
(solid, liquid, gas) to another
- A phase transition either releases or requires a good deal
of energy when it occurs: the latent heat
- One must carefully add up the heat required to raise a
substance's temperature through a phase transition
- Air conditioners use a liquid-gas phase transition
This lecture discusses material in Chapter 12 of Cutnell and Johnson.
