Syllabus for Physics 211

Classes run from March 8, 1999, to May 14, 1999. The final exam occurs sometime between May 17 and May 20, 1999. I have listed below the main topics of the course, together with the corresponding chapters of our textbook. The dates are a rough guide to the amount of time we'll spend on each topic -- roughly one week per chapter. It is possible that some topics may be compressed or expanded as the course evolves. We may skip sections within chapters, and you may be held responsible for material in reading assignments which was not covered in class.

At the end of each lecture, I will present the reading assignment for the next class. You will be quizzed on the material at the start of the next class period.

• March 8-12: Units, Mathematics, and Vectors: Chapter 1

  March 15: last day to drop courses for full refund

• March 15-19: Kinematics in one dimension: Chapter 2

• March 22-26: Kinematics in two dimensions: Chapter 3

  March 29/30: Test 1

• March 31 - April 6: Newton's Laws and Forces: Chapter 4

• April 7-13: Work and Energy: Chapter 6

• April 14-20: Impulse and Momentum: Chapter 7

  April 21/22: Test 2

• April 23-29: Uniform Circular Motion: Chapter 5

  April 30: last day to Withdraw from class

• April 30 - May 6: Rotational Kinematics: Chapter 8

• May 7-14: Rotational Dynamics: Chapter 9

• Final Exam
