Physics 211, Quiz 8A

Question 1:

What is the difference between static and kinetic coefficients of friction?

Answer: The static coefficient must be used when calculating
the friction between two surfaces which are not
moving relative to each other. The kinetic coefficient
must be used when calculating the friction of two
objects which do move relative to each other.

Question 2:

Which one is usually larger, for a given pair of surfaces?

  Answer: static coefficient
