Physics 211, Quiz 7

Question 1:

Ken Griffey, Jr., hits a baseball so that it has an initial velocity of 45 m/s at an angle 30 degrees above the horizontal.

Describe the acceleration of the ball as it flies through the air.

  Answer: The ball maintains a constant speed in the horizontal direction.

               ->  acceleration in the x-direction  =  0

           The ball accelerates constantly in the vertical direction,
           due to gravity:

               ->  acceleration in the y-direction  = -9.8 m/s^2
