To set up for the "rolling race" experiment, use the instructor's table. I've placed to tape marks a distance 100 cm apart; if they have been removed, make your own.

Unlatch the rollers of the instructor's table, and roll it a small distance away from the podium, so the students can see it more clearly and so it the right side can be raised up. Re-latch the rollers to lock them in place. Place two wooden blocks under each of the right-hand rollers.

Here are the five items you will be rolling. All should be in the "rolling items" bin.

• cue ball
• large silver metal hoop
• big black solid disk
• racquet ball
• physics cart -- approximate as purely sliding
